Mission
The Canada - Portugal Chamber of Commerce, a member of APACC (Association of Portuguese American Chambers of Commerce), was founded in 1993 to stimulate and promote economic development. trade and investment between Western Canada and Portugal. A premier advocate of business partnerships between the two countries, the Chamber serves as a vehicle for networking and information exchange, and conducts community economic development and cultural exchange programs.
Networking
The Chamber provides with ongoing opportunities to meet other individuals and firms involved in Portuguese - Canadian relations, trade and commerce. The Chamber:
- Introduces members to civic leaders, government representatives and influential decision makers in the Portuguese and Western Canadian business communities
- Identifies and counsels on partnerships and joint ventures for Portuguese and Canadian corporations
- Arranges private meetings between Canadian and Portuguese executives to discuss business and investment issues of mutual interest Sponsors regular networking meetings, luncheons and receptions that offer excellent opportunities for
broadening contacts within the Portuguese - Canadian community
- Consults with the Council of Canadian - EC Chambers of Commerce on European Community Issues
Business Development
By being an active participant in both the Portuguese and Canadian marketplace, the Chamber helps members identify valuable new business opportunities and obtain important demographic and marketing information. Importantly, the Chamber also channels hundreds of business referrals each year, both from outside the organization and between members. The Chamber's participation in Expo '98, the Portuguese World Fair, will create additional business opportunities for members.
Information Exchange
Timely information helps members position their businesses and investments for the future. Each year, the Chamber responds to numerous requests for information on a wide range of trade issues, from import/export tariffs to the location of agents and distributors. The Chamber also sponsors trade shows, seminars and conferences on pertinent trade and investment issues.
Publications
All members receive "News You Can Use," a weekly faxed news synopsis of business, economic, trade, tourism and investment developments in Portugal, and the comprehensive Export/Import Directory, an invaluable guide to members' industry or business focus, products and services.
Membership
Membership in the Chamber is open to all individuals and organizations who are interested in building a strong economic partnership between Portugal and Western Canada. Current members range from small businesses in the fields of banking and finance, construction, communications, education, import/export, law and transportation, to name just a few.
