The Textiles Industry
of Portugal: A Prolific, Dependable Supplier
Historically, the Portuguese household textiles
industry made hardly any investment in production and factory layout. The
success enjoyed in exports in recent years is largely the result of reorganization
of production, which made it possible to meet market demand.
The introduction of individual designs developed
together with clients based on high technology pattern creation enables
the Portuguese manufacturers to develop excellent quality ranges for the
better end of the market. This has attracted the best clients, the best
brands and the best stores in this sector.
The household textiles sector consists of over 190
companies and employs 25,000 workers. Almost 60% of total household textiles
companies are centralized in the areas of Guimarães, Famalicão
and Sto. Tirso.
These textile companies are producing some of the
world's most fashionable and technologically advanced products, including
towels and robes, bedding, and lace. The result is some of the most innovative
products from anywhere in the world.
